About Us
unabridged is the home for the complicated, messy, multilingual & multicultural works of poetry and prose. Think footnotes, hyphens, parentheses, and "it's complicated's." We're chasing that uncomfortable place where languages don't quite meet, leaving unabridged pieces of stories for readers to wonder about.
We hope you love these unabridged stories as much as we do.
What We Do
unabridged is a bi-annual poetry and prose literary journal, focusing on stories that cross over languages, cultures, and continents. Our journal is built on the fact that translated literature is an interpretation; only when we read in a text's original (or multiple) language(s) can we grasp the true meaning behind the story.
Each language offers a different view of the world, from words and definitions to rhyming and the simple sequences of sounds. Each one is a new way of exploring a narrative, and at unabridged, we want to highlight the role of language in storytelling.
